Balsam Fir (Abies Balsamea) is native to Ontario and Eastern Canada. This conifer's conical shape and wonderful aromatic needles make Balsam Fir a popular Christmas tree choice. This fir grows tall and narrow. Balsam Fir is cold hardy, shade tolerant, and will thrive in most soil types and moisture levels.
Mature Height: 50 to 70 feet (15 to 21 meters)
Mature Spread: 20 to 25 feet (6 to 7.5 meters)
Hardiness: Zone 3-5
Foliage: Fragrant, shiny dark green, very soft
Growth Rate: Medium - 12 inches (30 cm) per year
Light Requirements: Shade tolerant; Can grow in any light condition
Seed Source: Port Carling, Ontario
Preferred Soil: ph 5-6, acid, moist, cool, cannot adapt to course textures
