Norway Spruce are a fast growing, dark-green spruce with short needles. The pleasant appearance of this evergreen species makes it ideal as a landscape ornamental tree. The large main branches arch upwards, while the smaller outer branches droop downwards.
This fast growing species of Spruce are well-suited to applications such as windbreaks and privacy screens, although its foliage is not as dense as some other species due to its fast growth.

Fraser Fir have classic looks, featuring short, soft, dark-green needles with silver undersides revealed by upturning branches. They are considered to be the most perfect Christmas tree.
Fraser Fir reach a maximum height of 80 feet at maturity, and will flourish in fertile, rocky & sandy soils which are slightly acidic. In any case, they must have good drainage.
They are somewhat tolerant of shade, but prefer full sun. Grows at a medium rate of 8 to 12 inches per year.

The Eastern White Pine is the biggest conifer native to eastern Ontario. This fast-growing evergreen with long, soft, blue-green needles is commonly found as far north as Newfoundland and as far south as northern Georgia.
The Eastern White Pine can reach a maximum height of 80 feet and a width of 40 feet at maturity. The tree has a graceful, rounded pyramidal shape. It makes an excellent windbreak and shade tree and can be clipped into hedges. The lifespan of the Eastern White Pine is 200 years.

The Tamarack is a beautiful native conifer that loses its needles in the fall. It is commonly found in wet, swampy or boggy locations, but can grow in other locations as long as soil moisture is consistent.
This tree looks good through many seasons. In spring, small rosy pink cones can be seen as new needles begin to emerge. In summer, the soft green needles give the tree a fine texture. In autumn, the needles turn yellow before they fall.

The European larch is a deciduous conifer native to Northern Europe and the Alps region of Central Europe. While the majority of conifers are evergreen, larches are among those that are deciduous, dropping their needles every year.
This tree grows in the same area as the Norway Spruce and are frequently seen growing together.
The European larch is an excellent windbreak tree even though it does loose its needles in the winter. Its many branches help stop the wind.

The Eastern Red Cedar is an evergreen coniferous tree. Despite it's name, it is actually a Juniper and not a true cedar. It is native to Ontario and Eastern Canada.
Silvery-blue berry-like fruits appear on branch tips in late fall and are an important food source for a broad array of birds and mammals. Leaf color is sage to blue-green in summer, turning bronze in winter. Bark is red-brown and exfoliates in long, fibrous strips, becoming grayer and thicker as the tree matures.
Often used as wind breaks and privacy fences (screen or hedge). Does very well in fence rows, meadows and cleared areas.
